Geoff's Review
Martinborough is a small tourist town in Southern Wairarapa and a mecca for wine drinkers, as the "NZ's Wine Village" destination on the New Zealand Classic Wine Trail. It is a small town (about 8,500 residents) with grand ambitions. with street names such as Naples Street, New York Street and Cologne Street. The attractive Circus Cinema is tucked away just off the village square, on the road which leads to wineries and Lake Ferry. Now six years old, it caters for locals and the nearby towns of Featherston, Greytown and Carterton as well as Wellington week-enders (especially in summer). They offer a mix of mainstream and art house films. Patrons tend to be older but when I visited in July 2012, there were families and children heading towards a Saturday matinee screening of Ice Age 4.
The restaurant is open for lunch on weekends, with outdoor dining in the courtyard.
The Circus is well worth a visit, especially after viewing rows of regimented grapevines.
