Geoff's Review
A purpose-built cinema complex, now four years old and serving a city community of 40,000 locals. Sited on the fringes of a unremarkable parking/retail precinct in the Upper Hutt CBD. A flight of stairs (or the lift) takes you to a bright and well-maintained cinema, with four screens offering a range of fare, from blockbusters to art house. A cinema where popcorn and Coke and club sandwiches and coffee quite comfortably mix, and kids can find ample diversion whilst parents take a break.
Upper Hutt remains a dormitory city for Wellington and the daily outflow leaves Main Street looking a bit downcast. There are the usual food franchises nearby but Buttercups Cafe, on Main Street, seems to be popular.
The main Hutt motorway takes you to Upper Hutt, or you can take a 45 minute train rode from Wellington.
CLOSED 2013, re-opening as part of the Rialto Cinemas chain in late 2015
