Geoff's Review
TO BE COMPLETED
The Capitol Cinema in Te Puke, the kiwifruit capitol of New Zealand, has several claims to fame. Opening in the refurbished Alliance Hall in 1930, the Capitol served the town until 1978. In 1954 it was the first cinema in New Zealand to be adapted for Cinemascope. Re-opened by a local family business in 2000 and coverted to a three screen multiplex in 2003, and installed the first 3D system outside of the main cities in 2009. Now has four screens.
The Capitol is worth a visit just for the lovely art deco-style exterior and the colourful foyer, which features paintings of local scenes.
The big screens feature mainstream film; the Luxury Lounge Cinema screens 2-3 art house titles daily.
