Geoff's Review
Only a short detour from SH1 which runs by the retirement/dormitory town of Waikanae is the Shoreline Cinema, which offers a welcoming environment for affluent and older locals. Waikanae is primarily a retirement community but SH1 bring a continuous flow of travellers through the town, bringing holiday-makers and weekend trippers. Film offerings are very much oriented towards art house films (ie no school holiday's programme or children's films, and an emphasis on lighter titles).
The Shoreline opened more than three years ago, when there wasn't a cinema between Palmerston North and Wellington and the arrival of newer venues in towns and villages like Levin and Puautahanui, demonstrates that there is a large and loyal market for art house films in this part of the North Island.
Recent comments in the Visitor's Book at the Shoreline inclued: "Best theatre I've ever been to. I'll be back" and "Splendid environment. Sensational service".
Well worth a visit. Every Tuesday is Seniors Day, with $10 tickets.
